Social sustainability is about people - individuals, families and the community. The way we plan and build our communities affects public health and social wellbeing. The notion of wellbeing is central to our concept of health and healthy communities-how we get safely to work or school, opportunities for physical activity and recreation, access to nutritious food and clean air and water and the ability to participate in social and civic events. With our region's rapidly aging population, policies and practices that facilitate health and wellbeing become even more important.
